- Details: This is a stunningly beautiful, hand painted wood and silk, hand fan, with Flamenco Dancers and Bull Fighters illustrations. The wood has applied decals with hand painted gold swirls and it's heavily lacquered. The leaf is printed cloth, (looks like raw silk to us but we're not experts), with antique scenes of Spanish ladies dancing. Fans have been around since Roman times but these hand held - folding fans were introduced in the West during the 17th Century, and quickly became popular. These were not only great for keeping cool, they also kept bugs and unworthy suitors away. They became a fashion accessory, much like a brooch or bracelet, these were decorative pieces of art to be worn and shown. Today we love them as home decor; whether framed and hung on the wall, opened on a base/stand on a tabletop, used as a backdrop for figurines or other knick-knacks, or several displayed on a wall; fans can create an atmosphere of sophistication, romance, fun. They can be quirky or tropical, Bohemian or Victorian, it just depends on the fan colors and how you use them. These make great gifts for Valentines Day and Mother's Day. Great gift for a collector!

- Condition: Vintage - Used. Very Good Condition. Only one side-guard is decorated. Minor staining on the cloth in a corner and some staining on the back of the fan.
