Travel back a couple of centuries, and determining the exact time was challenging. The speaking clock, introduced in the 1930s, provided accurate time, but was not always accessible, like during power cuts in the 1980s. Before battery power, clocks and watches required manual winding. Forgetting to wind your watch meant finding the correct time before adjusting it. Even time-traveling Bill and Ted faced this issue. Before the speaking clock, bell towers served as public timekeepers. During the sundial era, time varied by location. Sundials on old churches and buildings still reflect this.
